“1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.”
See the feathers with the long tips at the ends of the ducks wings? Those are the “pinions” of a bird. Without them, the duck cannot fly. It is these that Psalm 91 says God will cover the person who seeks shelter in The Lord. There’s a special beauty in that picture to me. It is the very part of the wing that allows the bird to soar. His glory, if you will. Yet it is this which The Lord uses to illustrate how He covers His people, and His “faithfulness” that shields us. Oh God, you came low to rescue us. Shield us with your faithfulness and cover us with that which is so beautiful about you. We run to you, our refuge!
